WTO projects record trade growth in 2010

International trade will increase 13.5%, the WTO stated on Monday, correcting its March prediction of an expansion of 10%. This grow would be the fastest year-to-year trade expansion since the series started to being recorded in 1950. China and other emerging economies will be leading the growth, althought developed countries will see a growth of 11.5%.

WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy pointed out that the strong recovery of trade signalled improved economic activity worldwide.

"This surge in trade flows provides the means to climb out of this painful economic recession and can help put people back to work," he said in a statement. "It underscores, as well, the wisdom governments have shown in rejecting protectionism."
